Detailed Village Specifications

The Village of Caro is the Tuscola County Seat and is located in the center of county territory, approximately 1,000 acres, which is equal to 1½ square miles.

The assessed valuation of the Village of Caro is $66,587,150.00 — 17.1788 mils per thousand.

We have two public park grounds totaling  30 acres - Beith Park (which is located in the fairgrounds), and Chippewa Landing Park.

Village Population - 4,054 per 1990 Census

The Village of Caro has:

26.409 miles of streets

23.69 miles of sidewalks

  1.82 miles of alleys, of which ½ mile are hard-surfaced

  1.859 miles of state trunk line within the village limits

  7.21 miles of major streets within the village limits

17.34 miles of local streets within the village limits

A total of 25.769 miles of hard surface and 640 feet of gravel 

The village has a total of seven parking lots which accommodate approximately 350 vehicles.

The Village of Caro has a total of 43 employees, with a bi-weekly payroll of approximately $41,000.00:

Sewage Treatment Plant - 4 employees

Water Department - 3 employees

Police Department - 10 employees, plus 1 special police

Fire Department - 1 regular employee, 22 volunteers, and 8 pieces of equipment

Public Works Department - 7 employees and 17 motor-driven vehicles

Administrative Department - 5 employees

Mechanic - 1 employee

Caro has a water system consisting of five wells plus:

            21 miles of water mains, largest 12” cast iron

              5 miles of 8” cast iron mains

              3 miles of 6” cast iron mains

              1 mile of 6” transit pipe mains

            10½ miles of 4” cast iron mains

              3 miles of 2” and smaller cast iron mains

          229 fire hydrants

       1,648 water service connections, plus 88 outside of the village

Total water revenue is $458,723.00 per year

Normal water consumption is 450,000 gallons per day minimum to 1.3 million gallons per day maximum

The water consumption is 100% metered

Caro has a sewer system consisting of: 

           26½ miles of 6” to 15” tile and transit pipe 

           11 lift stations 

Total sewer revenue is $528,974.00 per year
